I just had a client call me.

They were frantic because their website and email were down.

I checked it and all the servers were running.

The problem: Their domain registration had expired because a former employee registered it under his personal email address.

Now they are trying to find that guy and get access to the registrar account to renew the domain.

I don’t know what will happen if some “domainer” was watching the domain and snatched it up when it expired.

All I can say is don’t let this happen to you.

If you are the owner of the business, make sure you have access to your domain’s registrar account.

Make sure it’s your email on the account, so you’ll get any notices.

Finally, set the domain to auto-renew.

It’s only around $10 per year, so why risk a failed renewal, missed email, a down website and a major headache?
