e9digital designed a website to inspire change for the WeAre Foundation

Key Takeaways:

You can tell someone they need to do something to change the world, or you can show them how. WeAre Foundation takes the second approach, combining art, artists, and activism through partnerships with social awareness organizations. The foundation connects young people to their civic and collective responsibility through programs like the #WeAreTheVote2020 engagement initiative.

With so many fantastic artists founding the organization, including Brandon Dixon (Hamilton Broadway), Ashley Monet (director), and Amanda Seales (Insecure), our designers at e9digital knew that we needed to create a website that captured the creative vision and appealed to multiple audiences:

  • To people interested in serving with the organization as an Ambassador.
  • To Americans who may not be registered or planning on voting.
  • To wealthy donors who would be interested in donating to support the cause.

These three needs in mind drove the WeAre Foundation to work with e9digital. We’re New York-based, just like WeAre Foundation, and have previously created websites in the artistic space, including for freestyle hip-hop group Freestyle Love Supreme (founded by Lin-Manuel Miranda) and famous costume designer Hochi Asiatico. Our agency pulled out all the stops for the WeAre Foundation, with multiple creative teams ideating for the project.

Users spend six minutes on average on pages with video

WeAre Foundation already had a professional music video, so our design team took inspiration from that to create the hero banner. We partnered with Sidesea, our sister agency we collaborate with occasionally, to use close-up video shots in the hero image from people from all walks of life, showing the target audience that the WeAre Foundation is for everyone and that everyone can get involved.

Because artists work with WeAre, we knew the website needed to be enticing, engaging, and creative. The video footage from WeAre utilized captivating close-up shots, so our creative teams wanted to use it as much as possible. Our designers implemented a parallax scroll, where elements in the back move faster or slower than elements in the front as the user moves down the page. The video plays behind a cut-out of the WeAre Foundation’s logo, creating consistency from the top to the bottom of the page.

When dealing with A-lister websites, we follow the tried and true e9digital best practices, so it contains:

  • An enticing hero image to encourage the visitor to scroll.
  • An about section that showcases the mission–in this case, WeAre Foundation’s amplification of communities through the arts.
  • A services section to learn more about what WeAre offers–in this case, “services” was information about their digital campaign to increase voter accountability.
  • Social proof that demonstrates how the company reaches its goals–for WeAre Foundation, it was the numbers on how they’re making an impact with an invitation to get involved.
  • A final call to action so users can take action once they understand more about the organization’s goals.

For WeAre, there were three calls to action. First, our designer created a short form to sign up to be an ambassador, with the three steps displayed on the page so that busy users know how easy it is to get involved. We also included an option to follow the company on Instagram so people could stay connected with the foundation while deciding how to get involved. A final form invites users to a secure page where someone can set up a one-time or recurring donation. With these three CTAs, we hit every portion of WeAre Foundation’s target audience.

The final product? A website with international recognition

“I’m always telling people (that e9digital) did our site.” Ashley Monet, Co-Founder/Executive Director | WeAre Foundation

Our designers delivered an outstanding website, boosting WeAre Foundation’s fantastic work and helping them achieve their goals. Comparing 2024 to 2023, WeAre Foundation had a 438% increase in engaged sessions (a visit that lasted 10 seconds or longer).

And that’s what matters most to our team at e9digital–of course, a little outside recognition doesn’t hurt either! We’re proud that the website we designed, developed, and launched for The WeAre Foundation was officially nominated for “Site of the Day” at Awwwards. The organization recognizes the talent, creativity, and innovation of the best web agencies in the world–and we’re pretty pumped to be in that group!
