Creating simple yet informative life science web design for the CM Life Science Fund SPACs

Just like how two different species of animals work together toward a common goal, special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) also have a mutual symbiotic relationship. An SPAC is created to merge with a privately held business to help it go public, and it only has a two-year lifespan. For CM Life Science Fund, Eli Casdin and his investment team have developed close relationships with the brightest scientists. They match these thinkers with their industry connections, including hundreds of critical business builders, specialists, and innovators. CM Life Sciences pushes forward new opportunities while capturing value overlooked or left behind.

SPAC websites follow specific requirements to comply with SEC regulations and exchange rules, such as having information readily available for investors. CM Life Science funds needed a reliable digital agency to build the websites for each SPAC created. Our team at e9digital built the main website for Eli’s company, Casdin Capital, in 2018. Eli was pleased with the results of that project, so it was an easy decision for him to hire our team for CM Life Science Funds. Additionally, e9digital understands the ins and outs of investment firms and SPACs, creating the websites for Churchill Capital and Alexandrite Management.

First impressions are 94% design-related

The website designers at e9digital are all about getting it right the first time–in the case of CM Life Sciences, the second and third times too. We’ve created three SPAC sites for them, plus a landing page that holds all of them. The sites are similar, but the board members and content change depending on the SPAC.

It’s all about delivering what the client wants to cater to their target audience and them trusting us to know how to communicate their vision best. SPACs only last two years, so we create new websites for them at that cadence. By now, we’re pros!

The CM Life Science Fund team gave our designers a deck with the existing marketing materials, and we then developed the design based on that. The biggest challenge was that CM Life Sciences needed a one-pager website. It’s crucial that all of the information on one page doesn’t become overwhelming to the user. The designers implemented tabs and accordions throughout the page to lower the cognitive load, allowing the website visitor to focus on one section at a time (and not be overwhelmed by a wall of text).

When e9digital creates a homepage or, in this case, a single-page website, we follow our tried and true best practices for content, always including:

  • An enticing hero image that captures the user’s attention.
  • A news section to keep the audience abreast of exciting advancements.
  • A final CTA at the bottom of the page. After reading through all the content on the homepage, a user is more likely to reach out.

With investment and SPAC websites, we also include relevant sections that may not be found for other industries. For all of the SPAC sites for CM Life Science Fund, we also included:

  • A competitive advancement area highlighting the benefits of the company using compelling iconography.
  • An opportunity section with robust statistics explaining the revenue opportunities for investors.
  • A second opportunity section detailing the strategy for the sectors CM Life Science Fund plans to invest in.
  • Tabs about each board member, creating social proof by showcasing the depth of experience within the company.
  • A summary with the major bullet points that investors need to understand on the site.

Building a foundation to address the target audience’s needs

At e9digital, we operate on a mutual symbiotic relationship with our clients. They help us by hiring us to create websites and trusting us to execute their vision, and then we help them by delivering sites to meet their KPIs and increase conversions. Year after year, we provide a powerful website for different CM Life Sciences SPACs, allowing them to reach their target audience and shift the needle for science-focused companies.
